Easy route through the green woods straddling Trentino and South Tyrol interrupted by a break on the shores of Lake Tret where, in the summer months, you can dive into its waters.
The absence of challenging points, the harmony of the trail or forest road sections that simply follow the terrain, sometimes narrow through larch woods, sometimes across vast meadows, and the fresh crystalline transparency of Lake Tret, give this route a completely familiar feel, suitable for outings or simple and peaceful hikes.
Author’s recommendation
The second part of the route, from Lake Tret onwards, takes place on South Tyrolean soil: the woods and meadows crossed are all private property and used for grazing and haymaking. Please always stay on the path!
Those who want to shorten the route can return to the starting point by descending directly along trail 512, which connects the lake to the parking lot.
Along the way, not far from the lake, there are the San Felice alpine hut and the Waldruhe refuge. On the return, it is worth stopping at the cozy Albergo Scoiattolo near the parking lot.

As you can imagine, the passability of routes in a mountain environment is strictly linked to the current conditions and therefore depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes, and weather conditions. For this reason, the information contained in this leaflet may have changed. Before setting off, check the condition of the trail by contacting the manager of the huts on your route, the mountain guides, the visitor centers of the natural parks, and tourist offices.
Roadbook
By car, reach the hamlet of Tret along the state road connecting Fondo to Passo Palade. Follow the signs for Lake Tret and leave your car in the large parking lot near Albergo Scoiattolo. Climb through the forest following the signs for the lake on trail 512, and shortly beyond, you cross a forest road. Take it to the right and follow trail 57, gently ascending through fresh woods and green meadows. Once near Dosso di Solomp, the dirt road descends and then crosses trail 512, which you follow to the left to reach Lake Tret in a few minutes.
After a pleasant stop at the lake, near which are also the San Felice alpine hut and the Waldruhe refuge with excellent dishes and typical desserts, continue towards the west shore where you take the forest road with trail 9 descending towards the village of St. Felix in the Bolzano province. The forest road becomes a path before emerging back on a dirt road near a large bend. Continue descending on the dirt road until almost reaching the first farms of San Felice, where on the left you notice a fork in the woods with wooden signs. Take this path and keep left to cross the woods on a flat trail and emerge on the forest road descending to loc. Plazze di Tret where you parked your car.

A regular bus service by the South Tyrolean company SAD connects Fondo to the nearby hamlet of TretDirections
From the village of Fondo in the upper part of Val di Non, continue for a few kilometers along the provincial road towards Palade. Once you reach the village of Tret, turn right following the signs for Lake Tret and leave your car in the large designated parking lot.Parking
