Chiesa di S. Giovanni
San Giovanni in Vigo di Fassa is a Gothic church surrounded by the Dolomites.
Mother church of all the other churches located in Val di Fassa, the Church of San Giovanni in Vigo di Fassa was built between the first and second half of the 16th century. The church dates back to the end of the 15th century and has long been a landmark amongst the faithful in the area, who used it as a meeting-point for religious celebrations and baptisms.
The building features Gothic-Alpine style and boasts a tall, pointed bell tower with a Romanesque structure. Two large walls decorated with frescoes from the Tyrolese school can be admired in the apse indoor. One of these frescoes dates back to 1498 and depicts scenes from the life of Saint John. And the Neo-Gothic altar can be dated to the end of the 19th century.
