Palazzo Lodron (Caffaro)

Palazzo Bavaria e Palazzo del Caffaro, the ancient prestige of the Lodrons in Storo.

Palazzo Lodron

There is not much left of Palazzo Bavaria, the Lodron family's residence which used to be in the Lodrona countryside, nowadays surrounded by buildings. Here the lords collected the town duty for the passage of goods entering and leaving the County for the neighbouring Republic of Venice. The structure of the building still documents how important this age-old fortified palazzo was. It was rebuilt in the 16th century by Ludovico Lodron: 2 square plan floors, overlooked by three dome-shaped chimneys, each one supporting a triangular metal flag. East and West host the ruins of the embattled walls. On the South side is a portico with barrel vaults and held up by columns.
Palazzo del Caffaro
is another building witnessing the ancient prestige of the Lodron family and is also known by the names of Palazzo Lodron Laterano and Palazzo Graz. It includes a group of buildings: the age-old residence is connected to Santa Croce Church and a convent. Built in the second half of the 16th century, it is an interesting example of Italian Renaissance architecture for its structures and decorations. Around a large courtyard runs an elegant portico with slim granite pillars. The colonnade supports another refined, Renaissance style portico, held up by columns of fair-coloured marble.
