The itinerary circumvents the imposing succession of Mesozoic carbonate layers (Main Dolomite/Hauptdolomit and Calcari Grigi di Noriglio Formation) and does not entail any significant slopes because it develops over considerable distances. The trail is not difficult but it does require an all-round general level of fitness and attention to weather conditions. Those wishing to do so can take the tour in two days, staying overnight at Malga Spora or at the Malga Flavona bivouac.

A long excursion departing from and arriving in Lake Tovel, allowing you to venture into one of the wildest and most fascinating areas of the Brenta Dolomites, with unforgettable panoramic views over the Turrion Basso (a modest peak yet one with outstanding landscape value), over the Pietra Grande and the stark walls of the Western slope of the Campa sub-group (Val Scura Peak, Termoncello Peak, S. Maria Peak).

    Roadbook

    Difficulty: EE (expert hikers)

From Lake Tovel, follow the long but pleasant gravel road no. 314 which takes you to Malga Pozzol in a couple of hours This section of the trail is mostly in the woods that run alongside the Torrente Trésenica stream, then opens into the meadows that are a prelude to reaching Malga Pozzol. Once you have reached the Malga, the gravel road becomes a trail (still with trail marker 314) that climbs gently into the woods towards the South. Once you have passed the rocky detritus of the Turrion Basso, take trail 301 to Gaiarda pass, and once past it you will quickly descend towards Malga Spora amid rocks and pine trees. After Malga Spora, leave trail 301 to take trail no. 338 which follows the tectonic alignment of Val dei Cavai for a very long stretch. The Sella di Montoz is the last rock to overcome before you can enjoy the climb down into the meadows towards the junction with trail 369. Here, another steep climb along trail 369 to cross the Bocchetta di Val Scura and descend the Val Scura down a steep slope. Once you have left Prà de l'Asen Peak on your right, take trail 330 leading to Termoncello Pass, first through the forest in one of the most pleasant sections of the entire Brenta group, and then with unfortunate afternoon climbs up to the pass. From the pass, it is all downhill, through the forest of Tovel until you reach the Rislà waterfall and then the alluvial fan that leads to the shores of Lake Tovel. The last section is for more tourist-friendly and stretches along the lakeside to return to the departure point.

If you are not very fit, it is advisable to split the tour over two days and spend the night at one of the local bivouacs. The Malga Spora shelter is located about half-way along the trail (in July and August the Malga is managed and offers food and accommodation); the bivouac at Malga Flavona is a short detour from the trail.
