The loop offers a detour to climb Ometto peak. It is a steep ridge trail with some exposed passages that leads to the summit in just 40 minutes. Those not comfortable with this type of trail can avoid the detour and continue with the loop route.

    Author’s recommendation

The huts encountered along the route are very hospitable and have excellent cuisine. It is worth stopping for a good break!

    Safety information

The section of the trail ascending to the summit should only be tackled if you are confident with high mountain terrain and exposed sections.

At the start of the summer season, be careful of still snowy sections on north-east facing slopes.

    Tips and suggestions

Along the route there are many streams, so there is often the possibility to refill your water bottle

    Roadbook

From the road connecting Revò to Val d'Ultimo, turn uphill towards the South Tyrolean village of Proveis / Proves. At the first hairpin bend, leave the road and ascend a paved narrow road that runs alongside the stream until you reach a dirt parking lot where you can leave your car.

Start on foot following the signs to Malga Stierbergalm on trail 19. The path climbs through the forest, joins the dirt road, and reaches the hut.

Here continue to the right on trail no. 12 towards Ometto peak, which in German is called Mandlspitze. The path climbs the pastures, crosses streams, and arrives at a flat point at the foot of Ometto peak. Here turn left still on trail 12 heading towards the obvious summit.

The climb to the summit is steep but quick; although the on-site signs indicate 1 hour of walking, it can comfortably be reached in 40 minutes. This section of the trail is on a ridge, sometimes exposed, with some easy passages over rocks. This is something to keep in mind if you are not confident with high mountain terrain!

After signing the summit guestbook, descend along the same ridge, and upon reaching the fork, turn left onto trail 133 heading towards the Obere Kesselalm hut.

This path gently skirts the base of Mount Ometto and arrives at the Obere Kesselalm hut, which is however not managed. Continue now on the dirt road and quickly reach the lower Untere Kesselalm hut, where it is worthwhile to stop for a break and admire Ometto peak from below while enjoying a Strauben and a well-deserved plate of canederli.

The last part of this trek is very beautiful and special because it descends along the educational trail Confine Naturale - Natura di Confine and returns to the point where the car was left.
