Safety information
It is a normal mountain trail without equipped sections. It is always better to have a waterproof jacket with you since weather can change suddenly at altitude.Roadbook
After leaving the car at località Fontana, we continue on foot along the wide and partly paved road marked SAT 134. This recently renovated road climbs up to Malga Lavazzè. After a stop at the hut, where on the way back it is worth buying the alpine cheese, and after filling the water bottle, we start climbing again always following the SAT 134 trail. The first part of this climb is a forestry road through the woods that then emerges from the vegetation and with a quick zigzag climbs the last steep section and reaches the beautiful Malga Masa Murada.
This is a bivouac maintained in excellent condition thanks to volunteers, the ASUC, and the municipality of Rumo. It is worth stopping here, refilling water, and enjoying the view from one of its sunny benches.
Now only about forty minutes of walking remain to reach our destination, the Poinella lake. We go around the right side downhill from the bivouac building, cross the fence, and take the trail that climbs behind the hut which is still marked SAT 134. The path climbs quickly and then crosses some nice meadows where you often find the hut’s heifers. We walk a little further and suddenly on the left appears the small Poinella lake.
The lake is surrounded by pointed rocky peaks which are among the highest of the Maddalene mountain group: Cima Bianasia (2,628 m), Cima Schrummspitz (2,569 m), and Cima Stübele (2,671 m). As the names suggest, we are at the border with the province of Bolzano.
For the return, we follow the same route as on the way there. Those who feel fit and want to collect a series of alpine lakes can continue south on trails SAT 133 first and then SAT 149 to reach Lago del Pin and Sella del Piron. From here, take the SAT 146 trail which pleasantly descends back to Malga Lavazzè passing by the Grumi lakes. From Malga Lavazzè, then descend to Rumo as done on the way out.
Directions
Rumo can be reached by car passing through Mostizzolo if coming from the Val di Sole, from Revò if coming from Cles, or from Castelfondo and the Brez Pass if coming from the Fondo area, Palade Pass, and Mendola Pass. Follow the signs for the Lanza district of Rumo and when you reach the first houses, leave the road, which at that point turns right, to continue straight on a small road that descends towards the stream. The road then curves near the stream and continues flat, passing some stables and reaching località Bagni where you can leave the car.Parking
By the roadside at località Bagni.Coordinates
