An easy itinerary through the green woods straddling Trentino and South Tyrol interspersed by a break on the shores of Lake Tret where you can go for a refreshing dip during the summer months.

The absence of any challenging points, the harmony of the sections of trail or forest road that gently accompany the course of the land, sometimes narrow in a larch wood, others through vast meadows, the cool crystal-clear waters of Lake Tret, give this itinerary a familiar feel, making it ideal for an amble in the country or for a simple and quiet excursion.

    Author’s recommendation

The second part of the itinerary, from Lake Tret onwards, takes place on South Tyrolean soil: the woods and meadows you cross are all privately owned and used for pasture and hay making. So please keep to the trail at all times!

Anyone wishing to cut the itinerary short can return to the departure point by descending along trail marker 512 directly, which connects the lake to the car park.

Along the trail, not far from the lake, you’ll find Malga di San Felice and the Waldruhe Refuge. On your return, it is worth stopping at hotel Scoiattolo near the car park.

    Safety information

Please note that the practicability of the itineraries in a mountain environment is strictly linked to the contingent conditions and is therefore influenced by natural phenomena, environmental changes and weather conditions. For this reason, the information contained in this page may have changed. Before leaving for a tour, make sure the path you will approach is still accessible by contacting the owner of the mountain hut, the alpine guides or the visitor centres of the nature parks, the info offices of the local tourist board.

    Roadbook

By car, you can reach the hamlet of Tret along the state road that connects Fondo to the Palade Pass. Follow the signs to Lake Tret and park your car in the large car park near Hotel Scoiattolo. Climb along the wood, following the signs for the lake on trail marker 512 and shortly after, you will come across a forest road. Take it on the right and follow trail marker 57 that gently climbs among the cool woods and green meadows. Once you are near the Dosso di Solomp the country road then descends to cross trail marker 512 which you should follow on the left to reach Lake Tret in just a few minutes.

After a pleasant break by the Lake, where you’ll find the Malga di San Felice mountain hut and the Waldruhe Refuge which offer excellent dishes and typical desserts, continue towards the western shore and take the forest road with trail marker 9 down towards the town of St. Felix in the province of Bolzano. The forest road turns into a footpath and then ends up a gravel road again near a large bend. Continue your descent along the gravel road until you almost reach the first farmhouses of San Felice and you will notice a fork on your left with some wooden signs. Take this trail and keep to the left to cross the woods on a flat trail and onto the forest road leading down to Plazze di Tret where you parked your car.
