Loop trail with hike up to the top of Mount Cornicoletto, Belmonte and Vedetta Alta in the Maddalena Group
An excursion packed with satisfaction that winds along the most beautiful peaks and ridges of the wild Maddalena mountain range, on the border with South Tyrol.
An exciting loop trail to cover in one day that links together three famous peaks in the Maddalena Group: Mount Cornicoletto Peak, Belmonte Peak and Vedetta Alta Peak. The excursion does not entail any particular technical difficulties barring some confidence with high mountain environments and with exposed trails and ridges. The itinerary is always well marked and the only section without any markings on the ground but with an evident trail is between Mount Cornicoletto Peak and Belmonte Peak.

Safety information
As you can imagine, the passability of trails in a mountain environment is closely linked to the current conditions and therefore depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes, and weather conditions. For this reason, the information contained in this sheet may have changed. Before departure, check the trail status by contacting the refuge managers on your route, alpine guides, visitor centers of natural parks, and tourist offices.Tips and suggestions

Difficulty: EE (expert hikers)
From the parking lot, follow the signs to the nearby Malga di Cloz, which can be quickly reached along a dirt road. Once you reach the hut, take trail no. 7 which ascends above the hut until you reach the ruins of Malga Paiol. Continue climbing always following trail no. 7, heading towards the saddle between Monte Cornicolo and Cima Cornicoletto and ignoring the left fork with trail no. 10 that heads towards Cima Belmonte. The trail becomes steeper and zigzags up the steep slope until reaching the saddle between the two peaks. From the saddle, the nearby Cima Cornicoletto and its ridge made of rocks and grassy patches is clearly visible on the left. The ridge is tackled with some caution and soon Cima Cornicoletto, the first peak at 2294 m elevation, is reached.
After leaving a thought and a signature in the summit book, continue descending along the ridge in the southwest direction towards the nearby Cima Belmonte. Here the trail is not well marked but the path to follow is obvious since you must descend the ridge and then climb the ridge leading to Cima Belmonte or Schöngrub at 2454 m elevation. This peak also has a cross and a summit book where you can leave a testimony of your passage.
Now begins the beautiful traverse to the last of the three peaks, Cima Vedetta Alta. Descending from Cima Belmonte's ridge towards the west, you meet trail no. 22 which continues straight with gentle ups and downs among grassy patches. In two sections, a metal cable is installed to facilitate crossing a rocky slope but without technical difficulties.
You thus reach Cima Vedetta Alta at 2624 m altitude, the third highest peak of the Maddalene group and a coveted destination for its spectacular view. After leaving a phrase in this summit book placed on the cross, the long descent begins along trail no. 11 which first goes down the rocky ridge and then along green meadows until reaching the comfortable Malga Kessel.
From the hut, continue descending along the forest road until after the sixth hairpin bend where there is a fork with the trail leading to the nearby Malga di Revò and the subsequent Malga di Cloz. From here, continue along the dirt road traveled at the beginning to return to the parking lot.
