A fascinating educational trail drawn above the settlement of Preghena, among woods, apple orchards, and green meadows, especially suitable for families. The protagonists of the itinerary are the fairies and witches (in wood) that inhabit the forest, but also the tale of ancient works of the past. Strollers are not recommended, better to opt for a child carrier backpack due to the certain elevation on dirt roads.

    Author’s recommendation

The start and finish of the route are planned in the center of the small village of Preghena. However, this involves a steep initial climb and final descent with an elevation change of about 100 meters at this point. To avoid this ramp, it is possible to reach by car above the village following these directions: leave the main road leading to Rumo and enter the hamlet of Preghena. After about 50 meters, take the steep road on the right, which climbs alongside houses on the left and apple orchards on the right. The road then curves right and, after passing through the apple orchards, reaches a stable near which it is possible to park.

To reach the educational route, just continue straight past the stable until you reach the forest where the first installation is located.

For the return, just stay on the dirt road that curves left, remaining in the forest without reaching the apple orchards and the village. You then arrive at a meadow and descend along the dirt road bordering it on the left, then travel the last 30 meters between apple orchards to reach the stable.

    Safety information

As you can imagine, the accessibility of routes in a mountain environment is strictly linked to current conditions and therefore depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes, and weather conditions. For this reason, the information contained in this sheet may have undergone changes. Before leaving, check the status of the route by contacting the refuge managers on your route, alpine guides, nature park visitor centers, and tourist offices.

    Roadbook

The route starts in the center of Preghena where the first installation is located: an informational totem that explains the purpose of the entire hiking ring. The itinerary immediately reaches around the altitude of 900 meters. Along the route, there are 21 wooden installations, each telling stories of ancient fairy tales, forest animals, landscapes, and enchanted beings.

Shortly after the start, you encounter a typical "ciaretar." The route continues flat or downhill and crosses the hill called "Dos da Mul," which, given its position as a strategic lookout, suggests an ancient "castelliere". From here, there is a beautiful view over the Rumo valley, Mezzalone, Cis, and the Bresimo valley. At the midpoint, there is the possibility to rest sheltered by a nice structure. Then, you reach the "ciarbonara," the charcoal kiln once designed to obtain charcoal from timber. Soon after, the return to the starting point is made, crossing the center of Preghena and passing by the Church of Sant’Antonio Abate.
