The Val di Non

Downhill skiing, cross-country, ski-mountaineering, snowshoeing and horse drawn sleighs

The Val di Non is famous for its apples and its small, well-kept hamlets. This valley may seem isolated but is in fact easily reached from Trento. Here you’ll find well-managed woodlands, busy mountain farmsteads and landscapes that in winter become the ideal destination for a holiday that offers simultaneously both plenty of fun and some well-deserved rest.

There is a total of three ski areas in the Val di Non that together offer fun opportunities for everyone: downhill skiing, cross-country, ski-mountaineering and snowboarding. For non-skiers there are plenty of alternatives like treks through the snow with horse-drawn sleighs or snowshoeing, the latter being a tradition of the valley. It’s possible to go ice-skating on lake Smeraldo or at the ice rink in the town of Fondo.

The skiing district offers a number of downhill slopes at the Mendel Pass on Monte Roen, in the Campi di Golf area. There are also great skiing slopes in Ruffrè-Mendola on Monte Nock and on the Predaia highlands and, generally, in all areas where quality snow cover is guaranteed by programmed snowmaking facilities. You can also enjoy skiing after nightfall on the illuminated slopes of Ruffrè.

In the Val di Non there are numerous ski-mountaineering itineraries, especially in the Maddalene group, that are a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the nature and peace of the valley.

Nordic skiing is generally concentrated around the Predaia highlands and the cross-country skiing Centre of the Regole di Malosco in Sarnonico. The centre can be reached by taking the national road in the direction of the Mendel Pass and you’ll find 10km of circuits that wind their way through woodland and meadows at an average elevation of 1,350m a.s.l..

A favourite with families is Predaia Park and the Nevelandia Fun Park on Monte Roen, next to the Mendel Pass. Here, children can learn how to ski while having fun in a picturesque setting with toboggan and snow tubing slopes.

To get a better taste of the land and local tradition, we strongly recommend you don’t miss the classic “Ciaspolada”, a snowshoe race that takes in early January.
