Trento and Monte Bondone

Skiing just a few kilometres from the city, hopping on public transport or catching a Skibus to get to the slopes, then descending quickly or meandering your way through the woods. This is the beauty of a territory blessed with mountains and woodlands and, of course, one of the most precious botanical gardens in the Alps.

Monte Bondone is a natural terrace offering a 360° view across the Brenta Dolomites and Trentino’s rugged landscape. The mountain itself embraced modern skiing back in 1934 when it witnessed the construction of Trentino’s first ski-lift facility. Since then it has developed into the perfect destination for families, ski clubs and, well, ski enthusiasts in general.

As far as ski areas go, Monte Bondone is extremely versatile and suited to all. You can enjoy some downhill skiing or challenge yourself with the ski mountaineering itinerary across the Tre Cime (The Three Peaks). It’s also possible to go snowshoeing, ice-skating or have fun with the kids tobogganing at the Children’s Snow Park (Kinderheim) in Vason or at the Viote.

Visitors will find an efficient Cross Country Skiing Centre in the sunny uplands of the Viote with its 35km of trails that cross the extraordinary Alpine biodiversity of the “Tre Cime del Monte Bondone” nature reserve. This skiing centre is part of the Super Nordic Skipass circuit.

Monte Bondone’s snow park reaffirms itself this year as a point of reference for those seeking fun and thrills on the snow, with a range of new structures. Opened over a decade ago, the park has challenged the imagination and the skills of the most daring riders with the continuous introduction of quality structures and activities, a characteristic that allowed it to host the 26th Winter Universiade in December 2013 and saw Monte Bondone welcome university freestyle and snowboarding athletes from across the globe. Thanks to recent developments, the snow park has taken yet another step forward, now offering twice as many structures and new lines for children and beginners. Besides the renovated freestyle track, the new 400-metre Fun Cross line will surely become the favourite destination for children whereas along the Easy and Medium lines both skiers and snowboarders can enjoy over 20 snow and artificial structures which will allow them develop and innovate their style in complete safety.

On a final note and after a long day in the park, it’s possible to sit back and relax with your friends and family in the Chill Area with it’s deck chairs, grill area and sound system.

If you fancy the idea of skiing at night, every Tuesday and Thursday the slopes are open thanks to the Happy Snow initiative. The slopes of Cordela, Diagonale Montesel, Lavaman and the Snow park will be illuminated from 8pm to 10.30pm and accessible thanks to a modern 6-passenger cableway.

Highly anticipated for the 2018-2019 season is the extension of the Lavaman-Variante slope which is also connected to the “3-Tre Panoramica” piste. Furthermore, the first stretch of the “Gran Pista” slope will be widened and will greatly improve the skiing experience.
