Health herbs

A path to discover the surprising alimurgic and healing properties of the spontaneous plants of meadows and woods, around the picturesque village of Grauno, the birthplace of Father Atanasio Cristofori, the "friar of herbs"

The natural environments of the Val di Cembra are an ideal place to discover the variegated and multiform world of spontaneous plants. In the surroundings of Grauno, walking through woods, meadows and country lanes, it is possible to observe dozens of different types of herbs, flowers, shrubs and trees.

The popular wisdom of the past knew the uses and properties of each species.

Today we can get closer to the world of nature by recovering, at least in part, the ancient knowledge concerning the world of plants. Many wild plants have edible parts, with flavors and aromas of extraordinary intensity. Others have medicinal properties and help - if used correctly - to keep us healthy.

The itinerary offers us a short and simple walk through the streets of Grauno and in the woods near the town, enriched with information that will help us learn about the plants, their qualities and uses.

The itinerary is also a dedication to Father Atanasio Cristofori (Grauno 1885 - Terzolas 1961), a Capuchin friar from Grauno who dedicated his life, as well as to the mission of preacher, to the profound knowledge of the life of plants and their medicinal properties. The knowledge of Father Atanasio, known as "The friar of herbs", converged in his book "Plants and medicinal herbs of our Tridentine Region" (1931). This text, deliberately written in a simple way and within everyone's reach, is still today a reference work for all lovers of medicinal herbs and, more generally, of botany.
