Fascinating route that delves into the heart of the Maddalene group, mountains that are rarely visited and thus quiet and peaceful.

Circular hike starting and ending at the well-known Malga Bordolona. The route is never too steep and after reaching Lago Trenta, it goes around the homonymous summit and climbs the Val Clapa before descending again to Malga Bordolona.

    Author’s recommendation

The best time to explore the Maddalene Group is July, when the vast expanses of Rhododendrons are in bloom and the valleys turn a deep pink.
On the way back, a tasty stop at the Malga Bordolona farmstay and its excellent mountain cheese shop is well worth it.

    Safety information

As you can imagine, the passability of routes in a mountain environment is closely linked to current conditions and thus depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes, and weather conditions. For this reason, the information contained in this sheet may have changed. Before setting off, check the condition of the route by contacting the managers of the huts along your path, alpine guides, natural park visitor centers, and tourist offices.

    Tips and suggestions

Recently Malga Bordolona renovated the Bordolona Alta building where you can now stay in cozy wooden rooms. For info and reservations: https://www.bordolona.com/

    Roadbook

From the hut, take trail 136 to Malga Bordolona di Sopra. From here, continue ascending over wide grassy slopes, at times steep, up to the Alplaner pass and its characteristic stone cairn. From the pass, descend into the wide and flat valley of Lago Trenta (trail marker 12), which is reached in a short time. After the lake and the junction between trails 14A and 12, continue following the latter on increasingly rocky terrain until the junction with trail 14, and from here in a short time you reach the saddle where the trail starts that leads directly to Cima Trenta. Alternatively, from the saddle, continue on trail 12 crossing wide meadows up to a characteristic wooden shelter. Continue descending, encountering the first shrubs and larches until the junction with trail 16, which you take to the right uphill, up to Passo di Val Clapa. From here you can admire the entire Val di Bresimo. The final stretch begins, always descending, passing by the ruins of Malga Scalet, a witness to an era when the mountain was lived by humans with great effort, until Malga Bordolona di Sotto, an ideal place to taste excellent local cuisine strictly at km0!
