The best times of year for this excursion are definitely spring, when the apple trees are in bloom, summer, and autumn, when the trees are laden with ripe fruit.
Walking along Via del Castello, you can stop and listen to the “audio orchard” where the apple trees bloom to the most relaxing music.

The route winds mainly through the town, starting from Via del Castello, which is on the other side of the state road from the car park in Piazza Fiera. This tarmacked road first goes down between houses and then through orchards and woodland, finally bringing you to majestic Cles Castle, which stands on an isolated hill surrounded by apple orchards, on the banks of Lake Santa Giustina. Go left at the fork, continuing along the road lined with a low wall and walk slightly uphill along the Nogare trail, which will take you through the typical orchards to the hamlet of Maiano, near the little church dedicated to the Saints Peter and Paul, overlooking the valley.
From here you can walk up on the right again, over the tram rails and to the ancient Pez quarter, with its tiny square surrounded by impressive old houses. Walking up to the Doss di Pez, on the right you will be able to see the little old church of San Vigilio. Retrace your steps and continue along Via Romana, until you get to the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta, on Corso Dante. From here, continue to Piazza Granda, going past Palazzo Assessorile. Then from the square, down Via 4 Novembre, at the end of which you will come back to where you started in Piazza Fiera.
If you would like a slightly longer outing, once you get to the little church in Maiano, you can continue straight along the level road. Once out of the hamlet, turn right and go up Via Guardi, which then meets up with the road that from Maiano goes directly towards Pez and the centre.
