Safety information
As you can imagine, the passability of routes in a mountain environment is strictly linked to current conditions and therefore depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes, and weather conditions. For this reason, the information contained in this sheet may have changed. Before setting out, check the status of the route by contacting the refuge managers along your route, alpine guides, natural park visitor centers, and tourist offices.Roadbook
By car, reach the parking lot at Lake Tovel. In the summer months, the road is closed to traffic and access is possible via a shuttle bus service.
From the parking lot, follow the lakeside path and after about 300 meters take the SAT 309 trail marker that leads to Malga Tuena, famous for its cheeses and excellent cuisine. From here, retrace part of the famous Dolomiti di Brenta Trek. From the Malga, continue left on the forest road marked SAT 310, which starts flat. After a climb, the forest road turns right and here you leave it to descend left through the pastures following the Dolomiti Brenta Trek signs heading toward Doss della Dena. This is a path that crosses the green pastures at altitude at the foot of the Tuenna and Livezza peaks, then descends and reconnects with trail SAT 312. Shortly after, there is a charming shepherd’s hut recently restored (Bait della Dena). Continue descending until you reach the forest road that you take left downhill to return to Lake Tovel.
Alternatively to the Dolomiti Brenta Trek path, you could follow the SAT 380 trail marker higher up and therefore closer to the Dolomite peaks. However, trail 308 is more exposed and in one section is equipped with a metal cable.
