Safety information
In the first stretch of the route in the rock there is a climbing wall. If there are people practicing this sport, it is necessary to be careful of falling stones.
For safety reasons, helmets are provided at the beginning of the rock face to walk in complete peace of mind.
As you can imagine, the walkability of routes in a mountain environment is strictly linked to current conditions and therefore depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes and weather conditions. For this reason, the information contained in this sheet may have changed. Before leaving, check the status of the route by contacting the refuge manager on your route, alpine guides, visitor centers of natural parks and tourist offices.
Every year in winter the path is closed due to the danger of falling rocks and reopens around Easter.
Roadbook
Along the state road that connects Sanzeno to Romeno is the Retico Museum, a center for Archaeology and Ancient History of the valley, where you can leave your car. The itinerary starts in front of the Museum where a wooden footbridge with signs for the Sanctuary of San Romedio is clearly visible. The walk continues through the apple orchards first and then in the woods until you reach the rock face of the San Romedio canyon. The walk continues flat using the old irrigation channel carved into the rock and secured with a massive parapet. Sometimes the passage is low so you need to be careful not to bump your head. The walk is always flat until you reach a wooden staircase that leads to the paved road which in a few minutes reaches the Sanctuary parking lot. From here you climb along the obvious access that leads to the base of the Sanctuary. The return is made along the same route as the outward journey.
