Lez Pozcadin from Malgolo to San Romedio
A pleasant, gentle and sunny, trail with original viewpoints over the famous Sanctuary of San Romedio.
Here is another way of combining a pleasant walk with a visit to the most famous sanctuary in Trentino and it’s suitable for everyone. The word “Lez” in the local dialect means irrigation channel. In fact the path follows the ancient course of the aqueduct created over 200 years ago that cuts the mountain half way up with original views of the Sanctuary of San Romedio. The walk starts as a wide cart track and then gets narrower and in two points there are passages protected by metal railings. This offers an extra sense of adventure to get the children interested in walking!

Pleasant flat and sunny walk with new panoramic views of the famous Sanctuary of San Romedio.
Another way to combine a pleasant walk with a visit to the most famous Sanctuary in Trentino. The word Lez in dialect means irrigation channel: the route actually follows an old aqueduct trail built over 200 years ago that cuts across the mountain at mid-height with new views of the Sanctuary of San Romedio. The walk starts as a wide dirt road before narrowing a bit and having two sections protected by metal railings. Just the right touch of adventure to encourage children to walk!
Author’s recommendation
The proposed route completes a loop by connecting two Lezi: the Lez of Malgolo and the Lez of San Romedio. The path narrows in some places and is not suitable for strollers. Those with children can stop on the way back at the large playground in the village of Malgolo, which also has a shelter and a bar.

The route is very sunny and in summer we recommend a hat and a full water bottle. The only water supply points are at the start near the fountain in the village of Malgolo and at the Sanctuary of San Romedio.
Tips and suggestions
In some sections, the path may be less suitable for small children or those not used to walking.
Roadbook
You start from the small square of the village of Malgolo. Following the signs, you pass under a porch and walk along the playground until you find yourself in the apple orchards. After passing a Madonna chapel on the left, you notice the clear signage indicating the "Al Lez for San Romedio" route and a wooden board with a related map. You pass a short ramp to continue on a wide dirt road. You continue on level ground and ignore the junction with the path that rises from the San Romedio valley and leads to Salter. The path narrows in some parts, and a little further on you spot a first panoramic point over the Sanctuary of San Romedio.
You continue along the path which becomes more uneven in short stretches and is equipped with metal railings. You thus reach a second panoramic point framed by a beautiful fence and the branches of a beech tree. You continue beyond to find yourself in the woods where the clear sign "Al Lez - San Romedio" indicates the steep descent on the right. You descend quickly down the forest slope to find yourself at the base of the valley connecting Don to San Romedio, where the river of the same name flows. You turn right following the stream, and in a few minutes you arrive at the Sanctuary parking lot.
After visiting the Sanctuary and the brown bear, you continue downhill along the asphalt road towards Sanzeno until you meet the path in the rock that runs along the road a little higher up. You go ahead until you find a fork on the right with a wooden sign handwritten with "Malgolo". You climb the first ramp and reach a nice example of lime kiln with an explanatory board. You continue uphill for two switchbacks until you emerge into apple-cultivated fields. Here there are no signs, but on the right you can see the houses of the village of Malgolo. You then continue to the right on a flat asphalt road and retrace the first stretch of the route covered on the way out.
