Lez "Sentiero Margherita" between Terres and Cunevo
Another pleasant gentle path overlooking Val di Non following the tracks of an ancient irrigation channel.
The Margherita path weaves gently along the path of the irrigation channel, the “Lez”, built over 160 years ago to irrigate the land in Terres, Flavon and Cunevo to make use of the water from the Tresenica stream in Val di Tovel. The path then enters into the pleasant pine forest above the villages in Contà and can be easily identified as the track of the old aqueduct is always clear, where it is still possible to see the water flowing. Along the path there are equipped areas where you can stop for a break and you may catch a glimpse of roe deer in the woods. Anyone walking with children will be pleased to know that at the end of the trail, slightly above the irrigation basin of Terres, there is a lovely play area entirely made of wood in the cool shade of the pine forest. There is also a cooking spot and a large table.

Another pleasant flat path overlooking the Val di Non following the traces of an ancient irrigation canal.
The Margherita Path runs flat along the route of the irrigation canal, the “Lez”, built over 160 years ago to irrigate the fields of Terres, Flavon, and Cunevo by diverting water from the Tresenica stream in Val di Tovel.
The path reaches into the pleasant pine forest above the municipalities of the Contà and is easily identifiable because the old aqueduct trace is always visible, where it is still possible to see the water flowing. Along the route there are equipped areas to stop and it is easy to spot roe deer in the woods. Those taking a walk with children will be happy to know that at the end of the path, just above the Terres irrigation basin, there is a beautiful playground made entirely of wood in the cool shade of the pine forest. There is also a fire point and a large wooden table here.
Author’s recommendation
Those who want to extend the route can continue beyond the Terres irrigation basin and enter the tunnel which, after 2.5 km, opens into the Val di Tovel. The tunnel is open from May 1 to October 31 and it should be noted that the temperature inside is a constant 10 degrees, even in summer!

Roadbook
From Cunevo, take the asphalt road that rises from the village towards Malga Arza. At the entrance to the Margherita Path there is a lay-by to park the car and a large wooden sign showing an aerial map of the route and the history of the old “Lez”, the old irrigation canal that carried the precious water of the Tresenica stream from Val di Tovel to the municipalities of the Contà up to Cunevo.
From the sign you take the obvious path on the right and immediately you find yourself in the pleasant pine forest and notice the pleasant, even surface of the path. Walking you always see the passage of the irrigation canal. The canal is mostly covered by plates but in some points the water flows in the sunlight and pleasantly accompanies the walk. The constant presence of the canal makes orientation easy because it is enough to follow its trace and the light signs to arrive without problems up to the large Terres irrigation basin.
In the pine forest just above the Terres basin there is a large playground and a fire point with large wooden tables, an ideal place to take a break before returning to Cunevo following the same route back.
