A beautiful loop trail that connects the towns of Cavareno and Ruffrè where it is worth taking a break on the shores of Lakes Masi.
The itinerary is well marked and winds its way along a wide trail in the woods that is in great condition. The limited difference in altitude, the shade of the woods and the arrival at the characteristic lakes make it a perfect summer hike!

Once you have reached the lakes, it is worth visiting the Mas da la Val petting zoo and stopping off for a wholesome lunch prepared with local produce from the country house.
There is also a small inn near the lakes called Bait del Pizgagn. There are riding stables just after the lakes.
In Cavareno don’t miss out on relaxing with a coffee seated at one of the cafés in the delightful square or ending the day with some home-made ice-cream from Gelateria Cavallar!

The hike does not entail any technical difficulties. The lakes are not suitable for swimming.

Before leaving for a tour, make sure the path you will approach is still accessible by contacting the owner of the mountain hut, the alpine guides or the visitor centres of the nature parks, the info offices of the local tourist board.
Roadbook
From the square in the historic centre of Cavareno, take the Via Alpina uphill then continue to the right along Via Larsetti. Keep to the left, take Via Italia which coincides with the start of trail SAT527 which is also referred to as "Sentiero dria al Foss". This name derives from the fact that the trail follows an old irrigation canal and it refers to the fact that it is mostly flat until just before the lakes.
The trail leads into the heart of the woods in the valley of Rio Linor river and it is delimited by a safe new wooden balustrade. The valley narrows nearer to the lakes, and the trail climbs gently until you reach the green clearing where the two small lakes are located, dominated by the characteristic town of Ruffrè. Continue the loop trail to the lakes, via the Mas da la Val country farmhouse.
After a break, resume your hike via Masi Molin heading towards the Coflari riding stables and Mendola Pass. Just before you reach the stables, you can connect to the mule track just above, which also bears trail marker SAT527. From here, you can decide whether to climb to Mendola Pass in just 40 minutes or to return to Cavareno.
So, to make your way back, follow trail markers SAT527 downhill towards the right to walk under the lakes and then keep to the left when you reach the entrance of the valley that goes down towards Cavareno, the opposite side from the outward journey. The trail now takes you along the base of Doss dei Pini and reaches the ruins of Bait dei Russi. From here, the trail turns into a mule track and climbs down into the valley of Rio Linor river until you catch sight of the Cavareno sports field on your right. Carry on straight ahead until you see the first houses on Via Larsetti and make your way back to the centre of Cavareno.
The area around the sports field comprises a dense network of narrow streets and paths, and you may lose your bearings and find the sports field on your left. This is not a problem; simply continue straight ahead and you will find yourselves in Via Italia first, and then in Via Larsetti, back the way you came.

The town of Cavareno can be reached by public transport by taking the bus line number 630 which connects Cles to Mendola Pass and back.

Directions
From the Trento Nord exit on the A22 motorway, take state road SS43 heading towards Val di Non and Val di Sole. Once you reach the Dermulo junction, keep right to travel back up the SS42 towards Mendola Pass until you reach the town of Cavareno.Parking
The Cavareno sports centre offers a large free car park (5 minutes’ walk from the town square).
Another free car park near the historic town centre can be found near the dairy farm.
