Walks

Start from the central square in "Penìa" and go up on the right of the fountain in "Troi de Lorenz" until you come out of the village and reach the meadows behind it. Continue along the road which cuts the steep slope and arrives at the village of "Lorenz" and then, a bit further above, at the village of "Vera". Go past the little church dedicated to the "Madonna de l'Aiut" to the right and continue along an even asphalt road with a magnificent view over the imposing northern side of mount "Gran Vernel". A few metres above the little road, on the left, the "Insom" ruins witness that a third settlement stood there. The road evens up, and goes towards the stream "Ruf de Penìa". Cross the stream and turn right onto the easy white gravel road which runs slightly downhill into the wood. Cross the grassy "Udàer" clearing and go down to the national road below. Follow this road to the right for approximately 150 metres until you reach the guard-rail of the bridge over the "Avisio" torrent. Walk along the outer side of the guard-rail on the well-visible path covered with fine white gravel. Once inside the wood go through it along a winding path which is at first even and then goes slightly downhill. As the descent becomes steeper, remain on the main track and reach the asphalt road. Go up until you cross the bridge and follow the national road for another 30 metres approximately. Go into the wood to the right along the well-visible path unfolding at the foot of the imposing northern side of the "Gran Vernel". The small clearings that you find on the way are well equipped with tables and benches. You find a first foot-bridge leading to the ancient Venetian saw-mill (one of the sections of the Ladin Museum), continue until the next foot-bridge. This path is also part of the educational trail called "L'ega te cuna" about the origins of water. You then get to a bridge on the right. Cross it to return to the lower side of "Penìa" passing between the "Sonia" hotel on the right and a beautiful farm-house with a barn on the left. Alternatively, don’t cross the bridge but continue on the path and join the path Canazei - Pènt de la Roa - Molin - Penìa - Canazei.
