Cavedine Archaeological Route
The Cavedine historical archaeological route is accessible via a pleasant dirt path that accompanies the visitor as they discover the local sites of archaeological importance with points of historical, cultural, archaeological and naturalistic interest.
Among the archaeological artefacts present in the Valley, the Cavedine archaeological trail is of particular interest. The Cavedine Valley is a hanging terrace on the left of the orographical basin of the Sarca River that has been inhabited since the Neolithic era (fourth millennium BC) due to excellent climate conditions for settlement and the fact that it was one of the main routes between Lake Garda and the Adige Valley. During the Roman era the valley, along with the Giudicarie Valley and the Lake Garda area, belonged to Brescia rather than the Municipium Tridentinum, and this remained unchanged until the Medieval period.

The Cavedine Archaeological Trail is a route over dirt track that, through sites and archaeological finds, allows you to reconstruct the historical events over the centuries in Valle dei Laghi.
The first part of the archaeological trail follows the western ridge of Valle di Cavedine and after just a few minutes, you will come to the so-called Roman fountain, an underground masonry structure that most likely dates back to the Etruscan period, with a rectangular stone basin to collect aquifer water. The trail continues, offering a succession of other points of interest such as the Assunta capital, which commemorates the people of the valley who emigrated in the last century, but above all the Cosina di Stravino, an ancient Bronze Age burial site, as can be seen from the relics and the funerary items (flint tools, pottery, dagger) found nearby. Before returning to Cavedine, you will come across another historical site of great interest, due to the Roman origin of the funeral inscription and locally known as the carega del diaol (devil’s seat) or queen’s throne.
