Prè and Leano – The village in Winter and the village in the Summer
A walk to explore the village of Prè and its summer pasture, Leano.

The main road runs through all the villages of Valle di Ledro except Pré. According to tradition this is due to the stubbornness of the inhabitants of Prè, who did not want the car traffic to pass through their village.

During the summer the villagers of Prè stayed in the mountains in Leano, which in time turned into a small hamlet of 50 huts. The huts have since become small houses, where the inhabitants of Prè spend their time for leisure instead of work. In August the village comes to life during the festival of the patron saint, St Anthony.

On the road to Leano there is a calchera, which is to say a stone oven used to slowly melt limestone into lime. The forge in Prè is the last place where the craft of the ciuaröi survives. Ciuaröi were blacksmiths who used to make shoe nails (broche). Such was their importance prior to the discovery of gum, that all men who could make them were spared military service during the First World War.
