The Rifugio Val de Dona is a conversion of one of the many chalets built of larch trunks, which speak of the (arduous) history of mountain agriculture and livestock raising in this area. Gentle, green pastures set against Catinaccio’s rock walls (the Marmolada is behind you as you walk up) are a delight to those who love walking in a relaxed atmosphere in this little-known, idyllic valley on the edge of the Val di Fassa’s most popular routes. Going, instead, by way of Passo delle Ciaregole you can to walk down into the Val Duron and to the Rifugio Micheluzzi (2 ½ hours, difficulty E).
