DBT Stage 6: Rifugio XII Apostoli - Rifugio S. Agostini

Sixth stage of the "Dolomiti di Brenta Trek" route, from Rifugio XII Apostoli to Rifugio Agostini.

Rifugio Silvio Agostini (2405 m) lies in one of the most beautiful valleys of the Brenta Dolomites, Val d’Ambiez, which is narrow in the lower part, but gradually opens out into a lovely amphitheatre as you reach the refuge. The refuge is dedicated to Silvio Agostini, a mountain guide who fell from Campanile dei Brentei in 1936. From west to east the basin is framed by very steep dolomite walls, the most famous of which is Ambiez, tackled every year by hundreds of climbers.

The refuge, built by private individuals in 1937, passed to the S.A.T. in 1976. Now extended and rebuilt the new refuge was opened on 17 September 1995. Here you can admire the stupendous view to the south of the Giudicarie valleys and Lake Garda with Monte Baldo in the background.

There is a little church next to the refuge and above towers a huge solitary mass, evidence of the collapse in the late fifties of Torre Jandl, the peak that overhung the Vedretta d’Ambiez and the refuge.
