Trentino’s lakes: adventure, water sports and lots of fun for kids

5 lake activities to do with your children

Deep blue pristine water, mild temperatures, vast grassy shores and spectacular mountains in the backdrop: the Italian Alps lakes offer oodles of family activities to fill an entire weekend. Whether you are looking for an active holiday or simply a relaxing place in the sun, here are 5 must-do activities for you and your family to enjoy the great outdoors and re-energize in contact with water.

#1

Bike in Valsugana

Make the most of the sunny days and hop on your bike. Indeed, in the Valsugana valley there’s an 80-km cycle track that follows the course of the Brenta river along mostly flat land. Pedal your way past blossoming apple orchards and, when you need a break, stop off for a bite to eat and refreshments at any one of the many “Bici Grills” along the way.

#2

Family-friendly rock climbing on Lake Garda

The Lake Garda area in the province of Trento offers many family-friendly cliffs where both adults and children can climb in complete safety. All young climbers need are some climbing shoes and a climbing harness to embark on their new adventures.

#3

See the Brenta Dolomites by MTB

Even the youngest children can try out the downhill trail in the Molveno Bike Zone on the Brenta Dolomites. The route, called “Big Hero”, is rated “easy” and offers a variety of activities with expert guides. For children from 8 years of age and older, it’s an unmissable experience!

#4

Canoeing

There’s no better way to discover those hidden spots you can’t reach by foot, those deserted wild little coves: canoeing on Lake Ledro is a beautiful activity to do with your children. It’s easy, with no fuss, just hire a canoe and paddle your way slowly into nature. Go before 11 am and after 5 pm, when it’s less windy and the water is calmer.

#5

Delicious picnics

Take a break from the action and sit down on the grassy shores of Lake Serraia on Piné Highland. Dessert is already taken care of: taste the delicious ice-cream at Agrigelateria, made only with locally sourced ingredients. Strawberries, raspberries and blueberries are in fact grown in the local fields, picked daily and served fresh on ice-cream.
