Here we suggest the 10 best fishing locations in Trentino
A wealth of fish species, uncontaminated waters, natural beauty and variety: Trentino, with its almost 300 lakes and over 2,000 km of watercourses offers an array of fishing spots (many with “no kill” policies) in a range of very different environments, many of which are appreciated by fly fishing enthusiasts.

Val di Sole
Over 120 km of rivers and torrents and 12 mountain lakes where you’ll find marbled trout, river trout and arctic char: this is the Val di Sole! In this area, we suggest the lake Pian Palù (photo), at an elevation of 1,800 metres, and the Le Marinolde reserve (booking recommended) which straddles the Stelvio National Park along the Rabbies torrent.
Valli Giudicarie
The valleys of the Giudicarie are a must if you love recreational fishing. Rivers, torrents and mountain lakes in the midst of the Brenta Dolomites is an unmissable destination for sport-fishing enthusiasts. This year, the rivers, streams and Alpine lakes at the feet of the Brenta Dolomites will provide the setting for a Fly-Fishing Festival to be held in the month of June.
Val di Non
If you enjoy lake fishing this is the place to go! lago di Tovel (photo), lago di Santa Giustina and lago Smeraldo: three wonderful lakes embraced by the mountains. As an alternative you can always choose a spot along the Noce river or the Sporeggio torrent, both “no kill” zones.
Comano Terme
How about fishing in the same waters that hosted the 2018 FIPS-Mouche World Fly Fishing Championship? No problem if you choose a spot along the Alto Sarca river, not far from the Comano thermal baths.
Valle del Chiese
There’s a corner of Trentino that calls Canada to mind: it’s the Val di Fumo, in the upper Val Daone and at the head of the Adamello glacier. Here it’s possible to fish in an incredible natural setting, in the waters of the Chiese river (photo) or on lake Roncone, renowned for its pike fishing.
Madonna di Campiglio
Torrents, rivers and mountain lakes at the feet of the beautiful Brenta Dolomites. We recommend the Vallesinella, a stone’s thorw from Madonna di Campiglio and next to the Adamello-Brenta Natural Park, or maybe the lakes San Giuliano, Nambino (photo) and Garzonè.
Vallagarina
Here too we’re not far from the city of Trento, we move however south of the provincial capital along the banks of the Adige river. From the towns of Calliano and Terragnolo and as far as Borghetto there are three “no kill” fishing areas, perfect for fly fishing. If you’d prefer a lake, we recommend the Bacino San Colombano, not far from Rovereto.
Val di Fiemme
The perfect place for fly fishing enthusiasts, thanks to the clear waters where you’ll find both marbled and river trout. The best locations are along the Avisio river or in the canyon formed by the Travignolo torrent. Where it comes to lakes, we recommend the Lago Lagorai (from June to September).
Val di Cembra e Valle dell'Adige
A wild and uncontaminated natural setting characterises the fishing spots along the Avisio river (photo) in the Val di Cembra, the C1 Zone of Segonzano being worthy of special mention, which is the undisputed reign of the marbled trout. As far as lakes are concerned, we recommend the lake of Terlago. If you want to stay a bit closer to the city, the Adige valley is the perfect spot to cast your line, for example, in the “no kill” zone along the Noce river.
Laghi
In Trentino there are almost 300 lakes and choosing isn’t always easy! We recommend Molveno lake (photo), aptly declared “the most beautiful lake in Italy”, at the feet of the Brenta Dolomites, or Caldonazzo lake, just a half-hour drive from the city of Trento.
