Nature encounters on alpine skis

5 itineraries to discover the most scenic mountain peaks

Away from crowded slopes, noisy resorts and the jostling queues for cablelifts: this is alpine skiers’ mecca. In Trentino, the oldest and most classic of all the alpine disciplines has the perfect playground to experience every emotion: first, climb the mountain, step by step, taking it all in - the sweeping views and the natural elements, then ski downhill feeling the adrenaline rush as you freeride on fresh powdery snow.

It is more than a sport, it’s a life style: alpine skiers know that to fully appreciate the downhill, first you need to conquer the climb. This is a sport that requires a certain level of caution and experience: it is always recommended to follow an alpine guide and carry safety equipment, such as an avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel.

We have selected 5 routes, suitable for all levels, renowned for the spectacular panoramas that can be admired at their summit.
#1

Cima d'Arzon

A simple yet exciting itinerary that leads to one of the many panoramic peaks of the Pale di San Martino Dolomites and on to the Lagorai mountain chain proper. You climb up through the area of the spectacular Calaita Lake (at 1,600 m a.s.l.) and continue in the direction of Forcella Valsorda. You then cross a number of slopes that lead to the Forcella d’Arzon. You then reach the lower peak and, not much further on, the true summit.

#2

Monte Sole

This alpine ski course is a relatively easy one with a vertical drop of less than a thousand metres. It’s a popular tour amongst alpine skiers and regarded as one of the safest thanks to its moderate gradients. Almost all of the route is shared with the nearby, but more elevated, Monte Villar run.

#3

Cornetto di Folgaria

This route, recently re-established along the legendary ski slope that was decommissioned in 1966, is perfect for ski-mountaineering. The itinerary is exposed to the north and north-east and the snow tends to last. Once you reach an elevation of 1,700 metres, the panorama will literally take your breath away.

#4

Val Gelada

This classic alpine ski trail in Val Rendena is the most beaten track of all in Madonna di Campiglio. An absolute must for every alpine skier thanks to its sunny aspect, smooth slopes with little vegetation and excellent year-round sign-posting.

#5

Cima Juribrutto

The backdrop to this excursion is one of the most beautiful sceneries in the Dolomites: you can reach Cima Juribrutto from Malga Vallazza, along the road towards Passo Valles in Parco di Paneveggio- Pale di S. Martino. The steady slopes make this track ideal for skiers with little training.
