Live every colour!

15 experiences not to be missed this autumn in Trentino

AUTUMN 2022 - Autumn is the season that, among all others, plays with our senses. It is made up of intense colours, inebriating aromas and strong flavours. It is the season of foliage, of the smell of mushrooms and of rain-soaked earth. It is the season of apples and wine. It is a season to be enjoyed at a slow pace, treasuring every moment.

For this reason, we have selected 15 experiences that you can enjoy in Trentino this autumn, among luxuriant woods, Alpine villages and lakes embraced by the Dolomites. From the crests of Val di Sole to Valsugana, from Val di Fassa to the shores of Lake Garda.

Which one do you want to start with?

Enjoying the foliage colours at Arte Sella

Red, orange, gold... the colours of foliage that blend into the beauty of wonderful works of art. Seeing the woods change colour is always exciting, but contemplating this show while walking among the works of Arte Sella, in Valsugana, is something unforgettable.

By bike at the foot of Pale di San Martino

How about a nice bike ride, in the natural setting of Primiero? We are talking about the Primiero bicycle/walking trail that connects the village of Imèr to San Martino di Castrozza. A 18.5-km trail that traverses woods, along the Cismon stream, passing through Mezzano, one of “Italy’s most beautiful villages”.

Experience the Val di Fassa mountain huts

From 24 September to 8 October, the Val di Fassa huts offer you a variety of experiences: guided trekking, artistic workshops, shows for the little ones, moments of wellness, and tastings of products from the valley and the broad Trentino region. Take a look at the rich program and select the activity that’s right for you!

In the Violins’ Forest, on the trail of the deer

A guided excursion to the Paneveggio fir forest, in Val di Fiemme: these are the trees that Stradivari used to make his violins. Here, through a suspension and a glass-bottomed bridge, you walk along the Marciò nature trail and visit the deer wildlife area, to admire these superb ungulates up close.

Among the Val di Non apple orchards

Autumn in Val di Non smells of apples! Among the events, don’t miss “Pomaria, the harvest festival”, in Casez, on 15 and 16 October, with its rich programme of events, gatherings and tastings. Or, take part in the “Adopt an apple tree” initiative, namely: in the spring you visit the farm and choose your apple tree and in the autumn you come back to pick the fruits. A way to experience the harvest firsthand.

In the vineyards to pick grapes

Autumn is also the harvest season: grapes are ready to be harvested and taken to the cellar, to kick off winemaking. You can try this experience with funnel and scissors in your hands, on the terraced vineyards of Val di Cembra, followed by a tasty picnic under pergolas.

Wine tasting becomes an experience

Speaking of wine, how about a winery tour, followed by a tasting in the company of experts? The Rotaliana Plateau is famous for its prized Teroldego, the most noble of Trentino’s native red grape wines. Here, countless wineries offer tasting experiences, often enriched by events like concerts, workshops and guided treks.

Lascaux Experience, in Trento

An engaging and innovative exhibition at the MUSE in Trento, which allows you to (virtually) enter the most famous cave in the world: that of Lascaux, in France, where over 6,000 graffiti dating back to about 17,000 years ago are still preserved. Finds, replicas, interactive multimedia, video and Oculus VR technology, to make you live a virtual, engaging and unique experience!

Events in Rovereto

From September to October, there are many events that animate this elegant town of Vallagarina. It starts at the beginning of September, with food and wine trails, either on foot or by bike, like Magnalonga in Upper Vallagarina (4 September) and Golosobaldo (25 September). Do not miss the long Blue Night of Rovereto (22-23 October)!

Discover an island in the mountains

We are talking about Luserna, in Alpe Cimbra: a small village nestled in the mountains, which has become part of the network of Italy’s most beautiful villages. The ancient Cimbrian language is still spoken in this small village, and in which the elderly tell stories and legends that seem to come to life in the woods surrounding the settlement.

Smell the scent of Garda’s gold

Among the traditional olive oil production areas, Garda Trentino is the northernmost in the world, thanks to its very particular microclimate. The result is the prized PDO Garda Trentino olive oil. The best opportunity to discover it, smell it and taste it is the Frantoi Aperti event, a week end in which six local oil mills open their doors to visitors.

A cocktail on the beach… in the mountains

How about an aperitif on a beach… in the mountains? You can do it in Val Genova, less than half an hour’s drive from Madonna di Campiglio, by participating in the “Terre alte” experience, reserved for small groups. It starts with a half-hour walk, to arrive on an “Alpine beach” and enjoy a cocktail accompanied by a gourmet basket prepared by one of the local starred chefs.

A bike ride in Val di Sole

MTB, gravel bike, e-bike... whatever bike you have chosen, this tour is perfect to be completed in autumn! A 40-km loop trail that starts at high altitude, from the village of Ossana to reach the Tonale Pass. An itinerary that delves into WWI history through the Alpine valleys of Strino, Verniana and Saviana and a spectacular view of the Presanella glacier.

Experience the thrill of the descent!

Take a bath in the forest

Take a bath in the forest

After all these emotions, it’s time to relax, taking advantage of the therapeutic power of nature and its ability to interact with our body. We are talking about Forest Bathing, a regenerating practice that you can try in Parco del Respiro, on the Paganella Plateau.
