Ask a child to draw a refuge on top of a mountain and this is what you’ll get: a small, gable-roofed chalet on a vertical summit. And this is what the Capanna Piz di Fassa looks like, built in the seventies right on top of Piz Boè in one of the most scenic spots in the Dolomites, destination of numerous hikers who ascend Sass Pordoi in the summer and crowd the terrace built at 3,152 metres above sea level. A small refuge on what is considered to be the easiest 3000-metre peak in the Dolomites, which should not be underestimated but which can give children, too, the dream of being a mountaineer. Open: From 20 June to 20 September Before leaving for your hike, always contact the manager to verify the opening of the mountain hut Walks Rifugio Capanna Piz di Fassa can also be reached by the Piazzetta via ferrata (very difficult and long: 4-6 hours) that begins just below Passo Pordoi at the Ossuary. The route is only for strong climbers with mountaineering skill. The descent from the refuge to Rifugio Boè takes 40 minutes (EE).
