Ronda Piccola is the “short” course of the Garda Trentino Bike Marathon, but it’s far from easy: 31 km packed with just over 1,000 m of climbing and a high point at the Sella di Calino (1,037 m). The race starts in the historic centre of Riva del Garda and heads inland through Varone, Cologna and Gavazzo towards Tenno and Ville del Monte, where panoramic views open up over Lake Garda. The route then reaches Lake Tenno, a peaceful basin famous for its turquoise water and pristine woodland, before turning onto the Terra Rossa forest road and the Strada dei Bastiani to Bastiani and Vedesè. Expect changing surfaces (tarmac, concrete and stable gravel) and some steep ramps on the way to Monte Calino. After the Sella di Calino, the course flows back across the Tenno area and drops into the Rancion trail, with sections that can be quite steep. From Novino and Volta di Nò you’ll descend through the Olivaia towards Varignano, then roll back into Riva for a festival-style finish line atmosphere.

When you reach Lake Tenno, famous because of its turquoise blue, do not miss the opportunity to take a picture

    Equipment

Riding your bike requires specific clothing and equipment, even for relatively short and easy trips. It is always better to be prepared… e.g. for bad weather or a sudden drop in your energy levels. The unexpected things are part of the fun!

Remember to thoroughly evaluate the type of route you plan on doing, the locations you intend to cross and the current season. Has it been raining? Attention: The paths may be slippery and require more caution.

    • Plenty of snacks (for example, dried fruit or energy bars)

    • Bike lights: best placed on your helmet or handlebars. (It is always best to be prepared)
