This route starts at the convenient parking lot near the Tassullo station of the local train. The first part of this walk descends on country roads through apple orchards before becoming steeper on a path recently secured with handrails and balustrades.

It then reaches the foot of the canyon where a brand-new wooden bridge allows crossing the Noce stream, which has just resumed its course after flowing out from the Santa Giustina dam. The other side of the canyon is then ascended, which, thanks to its southwest exposure, offers mild temperatures even in late autumn. Here lie the remains of the ancient Santa Giustina hermitage.

The climb finishes by passing a slightly exposed section but always equipped with a balustrade to return again to the cultivated apple orchard fields and conclude in the nearby village of Tassullo.

In the village of Tassullo is the elegant Castel Valer, a private residence that has recently opened its doors thanks to guided tours. info and opening hours at www.visitcastelvaler.it

    Safety information

Although it is at a low altitude, this path can be challenging for those without mountain hiking experience, with some exposed sections.

This route is infrequently used and very steep. The first downhill section is on cemented country roads, while in the second part the descent remains steep but on a narrow path with uneven ground.

The ascent on the other side of the canyon is on an open slope, and in the most exposed sections there are wooden railings.

    Tips and suggestions

The Santa Giustina gorge is also a Nature Reserve of Trentino, a protected area that safeguards the floral, vegetation, and wildlife richness of this particular environment.

These environments have become very rare today due to severe alterations of the territory caused by human action, so their conservation is of great importance for maintaining the genetic variability of the natural heritage.

Here is more information about the Santa Giustina Gorge Nature Reserve: Forra di Santa Giustina.

    Roadbook

From the parking lot near the Tassullo train station, follow the red and white signs indicating the way to the Santa Giustina Hermitage. Pass under the pedestrian crossing that safely crosses the railway tracks and turn left, following the tracks briefly on an asphalt road. Following the red and white signs placed on walls and asphalt, descend through the apple orchards, then turn right a few meters before the road changes from asphalt to dirt. Always follow the clear signage to descend on the path to reach the brand-new bridge over the Noce river.

The base of the gorge where the Noce stream flows is also a Nature Reserve. Here you can recognize groves of Mountain Elm and spot birds like the bright and colorful Kingfisher, the Dipper expert diver, and the tuft of dark feathers called the Little Grebe.

The ascent is very quick, and soon you find yourself again in the countryside cultivated with apple orchards. Here on the right is a sign indicating the village of Dermulo, a 15-minute walk away. To complete the loop back to Tassullo, continue straight among rows of apple trees, paying attention to the red and white signs on the concrete poles supporting the apple cultivation systems.

You then reach a resting area located on the edges of the provincial road near the Santa Giustina dam. Walk along the sidewalk next to the dam and reach the large parking lot of a commercial area where there is a bar-restaurant and some shops. Cross the entire parking lot, then turn left and continue on an asphalt road through the countryside leading back to Tassullo station, avoiding traffic.
