    Safety information

Please note that the practicability of the itineraries in a mountain environment is strictly linked to the contingent conditions and is therefore influenced by natural phenomena, environmental changes and weather conditions. For this reason, the information contained in this page may have changed. Before leaving for a tour, make sure the path you will approach is still accessible by contacting the owner of the mountain hut, the alpine guides or the visitor centres of the nature parks, the info offices of the local tourist board.

    Roadbook

In fact, the history of Luxemburg champion Charly Gaul began here. On June 8, 1956, on a day with strong winds and snow, the small climber took the pink jersey and kept it until the arrival in Milan. A stage that is impossible to forget and that every year is revived thanks to the long-distance race entitled to none other than Charly Gaul.

From the very start in Trento, the climb is instantly a challenge. You need to gage your endurance with caution, because you will need to distribute the effort over 17 and a half kilometres. If you don’t want to burn out, you also will need to drink and eat frequently. Climbing up at a steady pace you can admire the view of Valle dell’Adige with the city of Trento lying at the foot of Monte Bondone.

The climb is relentless, with the summit that hairpin after hairpin becomes ever sharper alternating the view of the valley below and that of the Brenta pinnacles that stagger against the horizon. After the last curve to the left, metre after metre, you reach Monte Bondone, a mountain that was one of the first ski resorts in the Alps. Already in 1934, a winch "sleigh" spared skiers the tiresome effort of climbing up the slopes. Summer on Monte Bondone, instead, becomes a real gym for those who love walks and hikes. Here you can also learn about the world of mountain plant life at the Alpine Ecology Centre and in the Botanical Gardens.
