It is immediately challenging so you have to pace yourself, because the final stretch resembles the great stage of a cycling race. It was precisely on these steep kilometres that during the Giro d’Italia of 1998, Marco Pantani and Pavel Tonkov contended for the finish line, writing some of the most beautiful pages in the history of the Giro. A few kilometers after the start from Tesero in Val di Fiemme, on the left you will come across the Centro Fondazione Stava 1985, built just above the church to preserve the testimonies of the tragic collapse of the basins of Prestavel that year that claimed the lives of 268 people. A warning for us to revere nature and against man’s self-centredness. The climb continues for another kilometre in the direction of Pampeago, leaving the crossroads that take to Passo di Lavazè on your left. From here the climb is relentless, with the shade of the woods that restores your energy. When you reach the summit, the effort is rewarded by the view of the majestic beauty of this place, fascinating both in summer and in winter, when it becomes one of the most popular ski resort in the Alps. Remarkable also are the hikes on the Latemar, a mountain with a staggering scenic effect located in Val di Fiemme. Its towers with the mountain hut Torre di Pisa (a must stop for lovers of the mountain) are unmistakable.
