Tour de Non MTB Experience: Stage 04 Sporminore - Cles
ON MTB FROM THE APPLE ORCHARDS TO THE WILD DOLOMITES OF BRENTA
As a conclusion to this four-day loop through the Val di Non, the incredible variety of this wide valley is once again presented: the apple orchards dominate while in the background the Dolomiti di Brenta rise, whose bright snowfields continue to sparkle throughout the summer. To the south, the heights of Andalo and the peak of Paganella are clearly visible. Looking east, the eye runs over the long and gentle mountain ridge of the Mendola range traveled the day before with its dense forests, larch woods, and high pastures. The difficulty of the route faced in this stage is not significant, so there is plenty of time to look around and enjoy the views. Those feeling tired and not wanting to accumulate more elevation can skip the challenge of the final stage and complete the route following the Dolomiti di Brenta Bike track. Those who choose to give their all even in the last stage of the Tour de Non will have to tackle a tough climb of 1000 meters in elevation towards Monte Corno, which will however be richly rewarded by an equally long single trail, the technical and demanding single trail "Genzianella."

Starting in Sporminore on the signed "Dolomiti di Brenta Bike" route and following it to Cles.
Since the route is constantly marked, you only need to pay attention to the “Dolomiti Brenta Bike” signs. Branches for variants are described in more detail below.
Approaching Cles, after the junction at San Vito Basso, be careful not to miss the turnoff to the apple orchard "historic orchard." Over 100 old apple varieties grow in this educational orchard! Those passing through the rows of trees in autumn can enjoy an unusual pleasure and see up close and smell an apple that has not been commercially available for many years.
Directly at the parking lot at the Bersaglio location, there is a connection to a detour on trails through the apple orchards. This loop circles around Cles without losing elevation, utilizing an old irrigation canal to the north and emerges above Caltron to finally reach Dres on the main road returning toward the town center.
VARIANTS:
Malga d’Arza: Whether on the steep and difficult forest road near the Hermitage of San Pancrazio or on the much easier paved road from Cunevo, the climb to the alpine pastures of Brenta is a matter of legs: more than a thousand meters of elevation must be overcome!
After a picturesque rocky passage, the uphill access to Malga d’Arza starts near Campodenno, in front of the ancient hermitage of San Pancrazio, on a recently restored forest road, which however has not lost its steepness as part of the renovation work.
After a long, tiring climb with some push-bike sections, Malga Arza offers a green expanse in the heart of the Brenta, which is conquered quite hard with 850 m of elevation gain over a 5.4 km route.
Right there, where the route would finally flatten, at a fork there is an additional ramp: this is the turnoff for Malga Termoncello. Those with the strength to reach it will be rewarded by a spectacular environment perched above the famous Lake Tovel and a very varied return single trail.

Monte Corno: from Malga d’Arza you must continue for another 2 km on trail 368 towards Monte Corno and overcome a good 150m of elevation on single trail with some push-bike sections. Upon reaching the carriageable road near the Doss della Quarta refuge, turn north towards the Genzianella Refuge. From the unmanaged refuge, a wonderful abandoned mule track leads to the trail with the new 368 sign descending.
In the final part on a forest road, you reach again the track of the “Dolomiti di Brenta Bike” with the Terres aqueduct basin and are just above the entry of the Terres Gallery tunnel, an ancient water conduit through the mountain, inside which the temperature remains constant at about 10 degrees Celsius and which is now used by hikers and cyclists to reach the Val di Tovel.

Lake Tovel: with this variant, you enter the 2 km long cycling-pedestrian tunnel of the Terres gallery that cuts through the mountain to emerge in Val di Tovel. Certainly a unique and alternative route: where else could you ride 2 km of straight path at a constant temperature of 10 degrees Celsius through a mountain? After a few hundred meters from the tunnel exit, you reach the paved road leading to Lake Tovel. Those not intending to climb up to Lake Tovel in the heart of the Adamello Brenta Nature Park (although we highly recommend it, possibly adding a night on the lake shore) once on the paved road must turn right and reach Tuenno, then return on the DBB track.

Senter del Guardia: At the Splazoi parking above Tuenno, you can once again leave the DBB route to gain elevation. Towards the Malghetto of Tuenno (Agriranch Pra de Dont) and Passo Le Fraine, a steep 2 km access road with 250 m of elevation gain climbs before leveling off slightly (the steep road would continue beyond towards Passo Le Fraine and up to the Peller Refuge). Near the Agriturismo (open in summer), a recently built forest trail begins, which tries to maintain the same elevation throughout.
It is a continual up and down heading north, where trails and forest roads alternate. Above Cles, the trail crosses the paved access road to the Peller refuge before finally descending north of Cles to reach the Caltron locality.

Rifugio Peller: From the Bersaglio parking you also have the possibility to climb up to Rifugio Peller. Follow the DBB Expert signs. The long 17 km climb is initially paved and exceeds 1000 m of elevation gain. Beyond the refuge, you can also add a nice panoramic loop around Monte Peller via Malga Tassulla and Passo Forcola. In any case, you should plan an additional overnight stay at the refuge before descending the next day to the valley on single trails.

All these variants listed together go beyond the fourth stage of the Tour de Non and require one or more additional overnight stays. Especially when considering the detour to Lake Tovel or to Rifugio Peller.
