Night of Burning Stills
Trentino’s historic Grappa distilleries take part in a travelling show through the streets of Santa Massenza
During the Immaculate Conception long weekend (December 5-6-7-8, 2026), enthusiasts and tourists will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the unique atmosphere of the charming village of Santa Massenza, in the Valle dei Laghi, to celebrate Trentino's handcrafted grappa. As usual, this experience will be accompanied by the captivating performances of the Theatre Company.
Trentino is a land rich in ancient traditions, carefully preserved and passed down from generation to generation, often flourishing in small communities. Santa Massenza is one such example, a small village with just over one hundred inhabitants, recognized as the "Capital of Handcrafted Grappa". Here, on a small patch of land, five family-run artisanal distilleries operate, heirs to a long-standing tradition that, until the 1980s, boasted thirteen active distilleries. This extraordinary concentration, unique in all of Italy, represents not only a record but also a historical and cultural heritage of inestimable value.
Santa Massenza is the ideal destination for connoisseurs, enthusiasts, and curious visitors, who come from all parts of Italy, drawn by a passion for this timeless spirit. It's not just about tasting a product, but about discovering the beating heart of a tradition in a unique atmosphere.
Over the three days of the event, the Koinè Theatre Company will perform six itinerant shows (two per day). Spectators, divided into five groups of up to 40 people (200 per show), will be provided with radio headsets and guided by host (and TV personality) Patrizio Roversi. Each group will visit the five historic distilleries of the village, which will be transformed into captivating stages where the five episodes of the show will take place.
The conclusion will be a magical and collective moment: the final episode will take place in the village square, where the famous "grappa swirl" scene will come to life.
