An agrarian institute to bring about improvements in agriculture? When in February 1861 the Austro-Hungarian Empire decided to grant Tyrol the right to legislate on agricultural issues, many were overjoyed, almost as if they could predict the importance that this institute would have in the years to come. It is now a centre for research and state-of-the-art training in the fields of winegrowing and winemaking. Every year hundreds of students graduate from the San Michele all'Adige school ready to put their precious background of experience and vocational training into practice, not only locally but also in other parts of Italy and around the world
