Strigno

Strigno is gently perched on the side of the mountain, along the Chieppena stream, and is surrounded by a green amphitheatre of hills. Its mild climate favours fruit cultivations. The residential settlement (ancient, prehistoric and then Roman), is crossed by the Ancient Roman military road "Claudia Augusta Altinate". Built in 15 B.C., the road connects the Adriatic Sea to the Danube through the Resia Pass.

At the beginning of the 19th century, Strigno prided itself of providing the court of Vienna with its wine. Nowaday the town, which was almost entirely rebuilt after the First World War and has progressively diversified its trades, has gone back to take care of its agriculture and landscape.

Sites worth visiting: Church of the Immacolata with its Medieval bell tower; Church of Loreto with its famous Black Madonna; Church of Sant'Agata in the Tomaselli village; the century-old cedar at Villa Adelia; the Argentinian bivouac on Monte Tauro featuring a breath-taking panoramic view on Valsugana.
