Surrounded by white rock, in the middle of the Sella Group at over 2,800 metres above sea level, you feel like you’re walking on the moon. Here - on a rocky plateau, where the snow lingers up to the start of summer - is where the Rifugio Boè (2,873 metres)was built at the end of the 19th century. The Sass Pordoi cable car makes this a perfect destination for many walkers in the summer. The refuge is owned by the Trento branch of SAT and run by the Vaia family. If you can stay on after sunset - when the last footsteps can be heard on the paths down to the Ladin valleys - you will discover in this refuge surrounded by rocks how deep the silence of the high mountains can be. Open From 20 June to 20 September Before leaving for your hike, always contact the manager to verify the opening of the mountain hut Walks The ascent to Rifugio Capanna Piz di Fassa (Piz Boè) from Rifugio Boè takes less than an hour, and includes a stretch of via ferrata (difficulty EE). The descent to Colfosco (difficulty EE) via the Val Mesdì takes 3 hours. It’s also possible to go across to Rifugio Cavazza al Pisciadù (difficulty E, with a short stretch of ferrata), or walk to Rifugio Kostner over the Forcella dei Camosci and the easy Vallon via ferrata (difficulty EEA) with the possibility of descending to Passo Campolongo.
