Chiesetta di S. Vigilio
The 13th century Church of San Vigilio di Molveno, one of the protected heritage sites of Trentino.
The refurbishment the building and frescoes of the little church of San Vigilio di Molveno have recently undergone, has brought one of the foremost protected heritage sites of Trentino to its original look. The church was erected in the 13th century and dedicated to Vigilio, Bishop of Trento, who died in 400 A.D.
The façade is of great interest thanks to the cycle of frescoes decorating its upper section, and to a beautiful Romanesque portal with a fresco depicting Christ the Redeemer, the Virgin Mary and St. John.
Indoor the church showcases the original Romanesque structure from the 13th century, onto which Gothic details were superimposed in 1536. The Romanesque features include the greystone walls. Also remarkable, the richly painted apse, the perfectly preserved outer walls and the fresco of the Last Supper.
