The Haus von Prükk
The realistic portrayals of home life in the little rooms are highly evocative.
This rural house is in the centre of Luserna, where people still speak the ancient Cimbrian language. Now a folk tradition museum, it is a vibrant place where stories from the past are brought back to life.
The “Haus von Prükk” is the result of restoration work on a 19th century rural home by the Kulturinstitut Lusérn. The property is made of limestone blocks and consists of two separate buildings, with three and four floors respectively. They are of different kinds and were built at different times. The route for visitors starts with a look at farming tools for livestock in the stables and food preservation facilities in the cellars. It then moves on to the kitchen, where there is a small open fireplace. Finally, there is a bedroom adorned with items featuring lace embroidery.
After your visit, treat yourself to a walk along the “Sentiero Cimbro dell’Immaginario”: a path that showcases the legends of the Cimbrian people. On the way, you will spot Sambinélo, Basilisco, Frau Pèrtega and many other characters, as well as wooden sculptures carved by local artists that children and all fans of folk tales will love. They will keep you company as you follow the path through woods and meadows, where it is lined with dry stone walls.
