Ecken biotope is located on Alpe Cimbra. Located at 1,250 m a.s.l., it is the only biotope to have been established above 1,000 m. An age-old lake used to be there, and as such the area is safeguarded as protected area. Biotopes are actually natural protected sections that have been chosen for their specific characteristics.
Whether humid or dry, or peat bogs, such environments have been selected for their features and safeguarded from contamination and pressure resulted by men. This biotope features a fully fitted trail and a bridge, allowing visitors to enjoy a guided tour of the area. It also includes an educational itinerary set up at Maso Spilzi - an 18th century facility converted into an exhibition venue.
