Network of Nature Reserves - Alpi Ledrensi
The kingdom of silence
Wild landscapes, fabulous flowers, ancient traditions. A hidden universe to be experienced slowly.
A very high number of endemic plants, the wonderful spectacle of autumn migrations, a varied and intact environment: the Ledro Alps are a true paradise for naturalists, photographers, and nature lovers.
Perhaps it is the wilderness, maybe the blend of climates - from the mild climate of Lake Garda to the rigid continental climate - perhaps it is the presence of many lakes, immense panoramas, jagged ridges or the enchanting sense of age. Whatever the reason, in the Ledro Alps, nature has a special appeal.
Among sharp ridges, narrow forested valleys and generous mountain pastures, the numerous and well-preserved archaeological sites tell the story of an ancient and strong bond between man and nature, which, established about 9,000 years ago in the age of hunter-gatherers, evolved over time and deeply modelled the landscape and its economy.
Beech forests, chestnut forests, limestone hills, vast pastures, and bodies of water: the variety of environments - intimate and little visited - is extraordinary, and reflects a fauna and flora that are exceptionally diverse. Here, most of the endemic plants of Trentino - plants that only grow in this area of the Alps - are concentrated. In Spring, orchids, peonies, narcissus, and many other flowers offer a breathtaking show of scents and flowers. In autumn, the sky is covered with the dark shadows of living, moving clouds.
On the mountain passes all over the territory, every year, at the end of Summer, the time comes to be enchanted by the unique spectacle - eternal but always new - of the great voyage South: the spectacular Autumn migration of birds to Africa. Take the time to visit the Ledro Alps: they must be savoured patiently, by bicycle, on foot, or on horseback, following its dense network of paths.
