Forte Cherle

Consisting of two blocks, the body of the blockhouse and that of the artillery batteries, connected to each other by a corridor, was built at 1,484 metres asl in the Malga Cherle area, a barrage for the Folgaria Plateau.

The fort was equipped with four domes for 10 cm howitzers, fifteen 8 mm M 07/12 machine guns in armoured blockhouses and vertical armoured shields, two 6 cm M 10 guns in the scarp wall fort and two 10cm M 12 howitzers in the “traditor” artillery battery. The garrison comprised 5 officers and 128 soldiers.

At the outbreak of the war, the fort was heavily bombed by the 280 mm Italian batteries located on Campomolon.

It cannot be visited internally.

How to reach it

From Folgaria, go up to Passo del Sommo and here, on the left, take the Strada Provinciale dei Fiorentini (provincial road). On the left of the hotel, in a few minutes you will reach the fort.
