Cesare Battisti Mausoleum

A work by Ettore Fagioli from Verona, inspired by Roman antiquity

The most famous Trentino irredentist rests in a mausoleum overlooking the city of Trento, surrounded by a lovely natural park, a popular destination for walking.

On the top of Doss Trento, the small hill overlooking the provincial capital, stands the monument to Cesare Battisti, the man symbol of local irredentism executed by the Austrians on 12 July 1916. The solemn Mauselum was inaugurated at the presence of King Vittorio Emanuele III in 1935 and is still visible from every corner of the city, with its majestic marble crown supported by sixteen columns about fourteen metres high, made from Trentino marble.

At the centre of the Mausoleum guarding the mortal remains of Cesare Battisti are the sacellum, a small fenced area, and the bust of the irredentist soldier, by Trentino sculptor Eraldo Fozzer.
