The story of 20th century life in the Val di Sole is told by the museum’s substantial collection of tools from the period and faithful reconstructions of household settings, from the kitchen to the bedroom.

Crop farmer, livestock farmer, joiner, blacksmith, weaver, copper smith: these were the main trades in the Val di Sole in the 20th century and they have now been brought back to life in the ethnographic museum in Malé, which is located in the first floor rooms of the former magistrate’s building. A range of original tools from the period are meticulously displayed, including a loom and a barrel churn.

In addition, there is a model of a water-powered sawmill and there are reconstructions of the parts of the home where people spent most time: the stua (a bedroom covered with wood panelling) and the kitchen, where everyone went to warm up by the fireside in the winter. All of this gives visitors a very clear picture of life back then. There is a special section of the museum about the illustrious mycologist Father Giacomo Bresadola, who was born and lived in the Val di Sole. It contains a new multimedia display and a selection of personal items and illustrated panels.
