Parco Museo Malga Zonta
The area of Passo Coe, in Folgaria, has always been a frontier territory, the scene of events that have profoundly marked history. From the disputes between the Republic of Venice and the Bishopric to the bitter battles of the First World War (1915-1916), up to the most violent phase of the Spring Offensive, these mountains retain a memory of centuries-old conflicts.
The place is also sadly known for the massacre of Malga Zonta on 12 August 1944, one of the most significant episodes of the Resistance in Trentino. In the 1960s and 1970s, the area was once again at the centre of international history with the presence of the NATO missile base, now remembered by Base Tuono, a unique museum installation in Europe.
To enhance this collective memory, the Fondazione Museo storico del Trentino, the Autonomous Province of Trento and the Municipality of Folgaria have created the project of the Malga Zonta – Base Tuono Museum Park, an itinerary that combines alpine nature and historical testimonies to tell centuries of events up to the conflicts of the twentieth century.
