National Historical Museum of the Alpine Troops
A fascinating place in Trento where you can go through the epic deeds of the so-called “Penne nere” [Black Feathers]
A short walk surrounded by greenery will take you from the city centre to this recently renovated museum, where you can learn about the history of the Alpini: the Italian Army’s specialist mountain infantry. Go inside, download the app and explore the vast collection of historical items.
Find out all about the history of some of the most famous troops in the Italian army. This museum was renovated in 2019 and it contains a collection of personal items, weapons, photographs and documents. Outside, you can admire the interesting, cutting-edge architecture, 29 stones that represent the Alpini regiments, various artillery pieces, and the “Vittoria Alata” (“Winged Victory”) sculpture by an artist called Biagini from Faenza.
The walk to the museum is very pleasant because it is situated among the greenery on the Doss Trento hill, just a short distance outside the city centre. At the entrance, you can download a free app that the museum provides to enhance the visiting experience.
