Riserva Bès Corna Piana
An orchid paradise on Mount Baldo.
The Bès Cornapiana nature reserve extends from 1,500 to 1,700 m a.s.l. in the south of Trentino, and regards three local administrations: Brentonico, Avio and Nago/Torbole. Going up the Vipers Path ("sentiero delle vipere") from San Valentino Pass, you first reach the Bes plateau, and then Corna Piana, which is a true botanical paradise on Mount Baldo. The reserve is also accessible from Graziani road by entering the road at Graziani mountain-hut.
The reserve extends over Mount Baldo chain, between Vallagarina and Lake Garda. Its particular geographical position, featuring the co-habitation of numerous climatic situations has fostered an incredibly rich and lush botanical environment. Mount Baldo is universally renowned for the special varieties of plants blooming there. Besides the exceptional plants and flowers, scientists have also discovered the existence of small invertebrates, such as the carabid beetles typical of Mount Baldo, called "baldensis" after its name. One particularly fascinating group of flowers stands out among the immense floral patrimony of Mount Baldo - there are 60 different species of orchids.
