Scrigno del Duomo
Gourmet and revisited dishes surrounded by frescoes and age-old walls
The restaurant
Scrigno del Duomo boasts two floors, one for its "Wine Bar" (ground floor) near Piazza Duomo, and one for its "Restaurant," near Piazza Antica. Before entering the restaurant, guests must cross an outdoor area that can be accessed through a wrought iron gate. Furthermore, they can also dine in the courtyard during the summer months. Of the restaurant's three rooms, the last is indubitably the most striking. Here, diners can enjoy a meal near the Roman Well that was discovered when archaeological digs were carried out. The well has been perfectly restored. The "Sensi" room is equally breathtaking and was named after the artist who painted the wonderful graffiti that takes up one entire wall of the room. Other, smaller rooms have been set aside for those in search of a bit of intimacy, a place to hold a business meeting, or for somewhere to enjoy a special dinner.
The restaurateur
Alessandro Bettucchi is the owner of the restaurant. He began restructuring the old palazzo a few years ago and has turned it into the wonder you see today.
Furthermore, the restaurant has an endless list of wines that can be tasted by the glass, either at the bar or sitting comfortably at a table, always under Franco's - the sommelier - expert guidance and interesting explanations. The tasting experience is fully complete when dining, since the restaurant serves traditional and highly elegant dishes in what can be best defined as an informal atmosphere.
