Thun Castle
The splendid castle of the Thun family nestled amongst the apple trees of Val di Non
A breath-taking castle set amid the apple orchards of Val di Non. Inside, you can admire original furniture from the 16th century onwards, as well as works of art, weapons, and porcelain ware. A must for history lovers!
Built during the mid-13th century, the castle looms over Val di Non from its position on a hilltop which, in springtime, turns white as the apple trees blossom. For centuries, the castle was the residence of the Thun family, one of the oldest and most powerful of Trentino’s noble dynasties.
Once you are through the entrance, you will be astonished by the perfect preservation of the furnishings and particularly by the stunning Bishop’s Room, which is richly furnished and panelled with pine wood. Not to mention the collections of art, period furniture, weapons, porcelain ware and carriages, all of which help to recreate a sense of the comfortable lifestyle led by the rural nobility in centuries past.
